John Harriman (Bass)

John Harriman, a cellist and bass guitarist, John received his Bachelors of Music, Masters in Music Education and Specialist in Music Education from the University of Georgia . John has taught in the Clarke County School System, Georgia, and started the Dougherty County ( Albany , GA ) Strings Program. He was one of two string teachers who started and help develop the orchestra strings program in Gwinnett County School System, Georgia, starting in 1982. In 1994 he was nominated Teacher of the Year for Lilburn Middle School . He also was runner-up twice for Teacher of the Year at Collins Hill High School .  Mr. Harriman has taught at Collins Hill High School since it opened in 1994. He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Georgia Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, American String Teachers Association/National School Orchestra Association, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Since 1996, John has been nominated for Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers 8 times. He is also a clinician and adjudicator and has held and been elected to several leadership positions in the preceding organizations. He is/has been a member of the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra, Toccoa Symphony Orchestra, The Jazzlites, the Georgia Perimeter University Jazz Ensemble, and the Blue Notes Big Band. Throughout his music career John has continued to develop his interests in jazz, swing, rock and orchestra literature.
